Lane Cove Toastmasters is managed by the Executive Committee listed below. Members who undertake executive roles not only contribute to the running of the club and also learn leadership skills.
Executive Role DescriptionsPRESIDENTThe Club President provides leadership and direction for the club and its membership. Along with the Educational VP, the President liaises with Executives from other clubs, Area, Division and District 70, particularly in relation to Club awards and the running of Area competitions. The President generally gives a 1 - 2 minute address at each meeting to encourage membership participation and provide information about what is happening in the world of Toastmasters. The President is also responsible for calling meetings of the Executive together to discuss club management and future directions. EDUCATIONAL VICE PRESIDENT (VP) Each meeting's agenda is prepared and emailed by the Educational VP, who encourages members to volunteer for speaking and meeting roles. MEMBERSHIP The Membership Officer is responsible for welcoming new visitors and setting the direction of how to attract and join new members to the club. PUBLICITY The Publicity Officer is responsible for ensuring marketing, publicity information and news of our club attracts visitors and new members to the club. This role includes ensuring the website is maintained with current and engaging information of interest to both members and visitors. TREASURER The Treasurer collects venue fees at meetings, new member and semi annual dues (April and September) for banking in the club account, keeps the club's financial records, cheque book, and reports to the Executive on the financial status of the club when decisions are made on expenditures for club resources. SECRETARY The Secretary takes minutes at the Executive Meeting and distributes them to members of the Executive for action. This role also maintains Club correspondence. SGT AT ARMS This important role involves ensuring the room is set up for the meeting, e.g. enough seats and agendas, timing lights set up, etc. The Sgt-at-Arms gives a 2-minute warning of the commencement of a meeting and calls everyone present to order so the meeting can start promptly at 7pm. The Sgt at Arms will welcome all present, including the visitors, may suggest a Word for the meeting (everyone who speaks is encouraged to use the word), and/or provide background information on the meeting's theme.
In addition to mentoring at club level, District 70 organises training sessions in July and February of each year to help orientate new committee members to make the most of their roles.
